In October 2012 the R.O.I. turned off Analogue Terrestrial TV Broadcasts and therefore now only have a Digital TV service. The Broadcast Standard chosen by the Irish Authorities is different to the rest of Europe and as such any Standard Definition TV's bought in the UK or else where in Europe will not work in Ireland.
You can watch British and European programmes via satellite whilst in R.O.I. but not RTE.
If you have a normal TV and want to watch Irish Broadcasters such as RTE then you will need to purchase an Irish set top box in Ireland. Thier equivalent to Feeview is called Saorview.
The Avtex W164TR is one of the latest generation of Avtex 12v TV's housed in an " Ultra Slim " cabinet. It has a professional video screen giving truly outstanding picture quality that surpasses the competion by a large margin. It has wide viewing angles that give a great picture when seated to the side of the TV. The Avtex also has better sound quality than other models we have tried giving an inpressive overall viewing experience. The standard definition picture will be more than adequate for most but should you wish there are two HDMI sockets for connecting external High Definition sources like Blue-ray Disc or a Full HD Camcorder. There's a comprehensive selection of sockets for connecting equipment including: composite video (phono), scart, VGA and earphone sockets.
Having been designed specifically for mobile use the W164TR has excellent build quality and ease of use was also factored in with the a one button tuning system and easy to navigate menu system for other functions. The TV can be powered from 230 mains with the supplied power supply or direct from a leisure battery for those who like to wild camp. The quality of the set means the components are very efficient that help to acheive very low power consumption. Traditionally sets of this size have used approx 3A-3.25A on 12 volts. We have measured this set with an input voltage of 12.5v (approx half charged battery) at 1.7A.
The W164TR has two tuners, a Digital DVB-T one suitable for watching FREEVIEW and the Continental equivalent, plus a conventional Multi-standard tuner making it suitable for use throughout Europe on both the new and old transmission systems. You can pause/record live TV from the Digital (FREEVIEW) tuner to an external pen drive/usb hdd (not included) via the USB socket. This is the only source that can be recorded and supports Hard Drives up to 250Gb in size. If you have a larger HDD you will need to create smaller partions.
Please note that the latest generation of TV's are significantly slimmer than previous models. If you intend to mount your W164TR on a VESA wall bracket please ensure that you use bolts of an appropriate length as using bolts that are too long may damage the TV. We can supply short bolts if required, please contact us.
The Avtex W164TR is supplied with a 12v lead terminated in a cigar type plug. The cigar plug houses a glass fuse to protect the TV. If you should need to replace the fuse this can be done by carefully rotating the end of the plug. This plug should not be removed as your TV will not have the protection of the fuse and the warranty will be invalidated. If your vehicle has a different type of socket you should purchase an adapter either from us or your local caravan dealer. Details of our adapters can be found in the accessories section.
When connecting the W164TR TV you should follow the same safety princple as connecting your hook up lead, when setting up connect the TV end first, wall socket end second. When packing away disconnect the wall socket end first, TV end second. It is also important to completely turn the TV off with the main ON/OFF switch situated on the bottom panel rather than just turning to standby as if the main switch is left "ON" when you next connect the TV there will be a surge of power that may blow the fuse. Whilst the W164TR only uses a small amount of power in standby, turning the main switch "OFF" will also save your valuable battery power when rallying / wild camping.
